The client is a multi-national company in the publishing industry with a U.S. and a European focus. We were engaged to help them launch their social media strategy. Specifically, we were engaged to conduct a social media training workshop. We delivered a two-day workshop that included dozens of employees ranging from executive staff through marketing and HR staff. Client Objective – Improve Social Media Execution
The client had previously written an extensive social media plan but lacked an organized approach to rolling it out. They had experimented with social media within several departments without a cohesive plan. Their goal was to educate their social media teams on how to develop a content marketing plan, develop social media campaigns that would create engagement, build internal collaboration and maximize the chances of social media success and overall digital marketing ROI under their new social media strategy.
Social Media Training Challenges
With a newly written social media strategy, the client had a strong understanding of their target audiences. Their social media strategy was inter-departmental with several of their target audiences’ interests spread across multiple social media teams in the U.S. and in Europe. The purpose of the training event was primarily to get all the stakeholders on the same page, build enthusiasm and an organized approach to rolling out the social media plan.

Preparation for the workshop required research and collaborative dialog with the client to review their current strategy, identify key competitors and review the social media plan they wished to implement for successful social media optimization.
This required a persona analysis to better understand their target audiences and the communities these varied audiences preferred on the social web.
Social Media Training Case Study Results
As word of the impending training traveled through the client’s U.S. headquarters, the training workshop needed to be scheduled at a larger facility to accommodate a bigger than anticipated turnout. Since C-suite executives were planning to attend the beginning of the workshop we planned to cover social media strategy, ROI benefits and social media investment topics during the first 90 minutes so key stakeholders would obtain a solid understanding of social media business benefits.
The training workshop agenda covered social media strategy, success stories, content marketing and LinkedIn for business development. The training also included key competitor social media analysis to provide the client’s staff examples of how their competitors are using social media. The workshop training was followed by small group hands-on interactive training.
The results of the training were a better understanding of social media’s long term benefits by senior-management. The workshop training helped the marketing department integrate social media policy and execution plans across multiple departments. This helped the client recognize the importance of having effective social media management tools to improve their internal collaborative process for efficiency and maximum results.
