Business Blogs - Web 2.0 Internet Marketing Strategies
Blogs are not new. But, just in case you need a definition, a blog (short for weblog) is an online conversation between the host and an audience of people who participate. Blog posts are displayed in a chronological and topical format. A more formal definition of a blog is available here.
For about the last three years Business blogs have been adopted very rapidly by corporations around the globe. The media attention given to blogging for business includes BusinessWeek, Fortune, Smart Company, Wired and even People and Entertainment Weekly. In May 2005 BusinessWeek's front cover story said it best: "Blogs will change your business....Your customers and rivals are figuring blogs out. Our advice, catch up...or catch you later."
Business blogging allows you to listen to what people are saying about your products, your brand, your employees, your partners, your vendors, your competitors, your marketing and all at lightning speed!
When information is posted in a blog by a community of constituents, such information can be incredibly valuable. The knowledge you gain allows you to react in "Internet speed" by learning something in hours versus days or weeks. Consider the impact blogging for business can have on your competitive advantage.
The volume of bloggers on the Internet is staggering. Blog content is the fastest growing form of content on the web with an estimated 100 plus million bloggers. If you think most of them are predicting Paris Hilton's career plans, think again.
Blogging for business can be done at two levels. A business can sponsor a blog, e.g., http://googleblog.blogspot.com. And, individuals within a business can sponsor a blog, notably CEO's and thought leaders, e.g., http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/.
Companies across all industries are using the blogosphere as a platform to communicate. Blogs form communities of people who have something to say on topics of interest. Sometimes, blog posts can be negative but if negative comments are well founded, wouldn't you rather know sooner than later so you can react?
While there are numerous valuable reasons to blog for business, we can not overlook one other reason to blog, namely Internet Marketing. Search engines like blog content because the content is frequently updated. Search engines index blog content frequently and rapidly. Business blog posts which use your company name, product names or keywords relevant to your products, will produce links which search engines consider to be "important." So, blogging for business can also help you improve search engine optimization results through improved search engine rankings, as well as providing many other business benefits.

Web 2.0 : Podcast Marketing
A podcast is a digital media file, or a series of such files, that are distributed over the Internet using syndicated feeds for playback on portable media players and personal computers.
Not clear enough? A podcast is a show or episode you listen to on your computer or your MP3 player (which doesn't have to be an iPod). You subscribe to podcasts topics of interest through RSS.
Why Should Marketers Care About Podcasting?
Just ask CNN, the Wall Street Journal and many other media websites, as well as social networking sites who make content available in a podcast format. Ask your competitors who may be rolling out podcast content and capturing brand-building audience and building loyal traffic to their website or blog.
The Content of Your Podcast is Your Advertising
Click Image to view latest Podcasts:
Podcast content is your advertising message! When you produce and market a podcast about something (anything) of interest to your target audience you can engage your audience one-on-one. How many other medium can make that claim? Print can't. Radio can't. Television can't. Tradeshows certainly can't. Podcasts can!!!
Podcasts Have Search Engine Optimization Benefits
When a text summary of your podcast is available on your website (or blog post), search engines will index the content and rank the page according to the relevant content.
Survey Results Point to Podcast Marketing Opportunity
Consider some of these recent facts from a KnowledgeStorm survey* of 3900 IT and business professionals:
B2B technology buyers are listening to podcasts for business interests, specifically technology-oriented topics, according to the study findings. Respondents are listening to podcasts for personal and business interests - 65% responded that they listen for both personal and business interests. Furthermore, these respondents are listening to podcasts on technology specific topics - 72% claimed that they have downloaded or listened to podcasts on technology topics on more than one occasion. Twenty-three percent do so "frequently."
The study also revealed that B2B technology buyers want research content, such as white papers and analyst reports, delivered as podcasts. Nearly 60% of respondents said that information on business or technology topics, currently delivered as white papers or analyst reports, would be more interesting as podcasts. Fifty-five percent of respondents would be more likely to consume white papers and analyst reports if they were delivered as podcasts.
"Fifty-seven percent of the frequent podcast users stated their biggest challenge with podcasts is the scarcity of interesting content. That represents real opportunity for savvy marketers."
*The KnowledgeStorm and Universal McCann survey July 2007.
So what information can you deliver to your target audience in a podcast format? How can you market podcast content to build your brand, produce more leads and differentiate from your competitors?
